Ojala Threads El Camino Ornament honors the migrant spirit of all who seek something better. Inspired by the most popular birth story of all time, our El Camino Ornament perfectly blends Taino and Dominican identity.
La muñeca sin cara is a contemporary symbol of Dominican identity. It is faceless because our features are a blend of Spanish, Taino and African heritage making her the perfect vessel to carry El Camino's powerful message. Each piece will be accompanied by the following poem:
"Some use roads, others trains. Some sit in planes that navigate paths created by wind. Imagine if they saw us now. Leaving our lands. Navegando la aduana, and not stars.
Es que cuando la tierra ya no da, people flee, migrate, run...
When you have to protect your legacy, the next generation, you are willing to risk it all. In hopes that the child designed by the universe to occupy this space, este momento, this branch on the family tree, will have a chance.
But chances are tricky for there are ríos que son grandes. Y del desierto ni hables. But there once was a child that was found by the North Star and honored by three kings".
Handmade in the Dominican Republican by an artisanal cooperative. No two are identical.
Approximately 7.5 inches tall.
At a time when everyone has so many choices on where to shop. I’m grateful for Ojala Threads for not just the amazing quality of their products, though the opportunity it provides to showcase and support talented artisans from the homeland. We are beyond impressed and are so happy to welcome this year’s ornament into our home and on our family Christmas tree. She’s even better in person. This is our second year of purchasing ojala threads’ ornaments and they are definitely treasured keepsakes and we look forward to our collection growing next year!!!! Ramona thank you for maintaining space and curating items that honor your culture for multiple indigenous communities to enjoy.
