The Buyiri Bodysuit is inspired by the Taino symbol for bats. Bats are central to the Taino creation story. The following poem written by our founder is included with each Buyiri Bodysuit.

"The sun will always rise from the Cacibajagua cave. The Buyiri knew this. So at dawn they would rush back to the safety of a darkness that demanded no change, but provided little comfort.

But there were a few bold enough, or careless enough… to tempt dawn. For even in the darkness they could sense that there was more.

They took on the sun, for us!

Via a golden mist they changed… one became stone. Another tree. A third became bird. And the fourth became your ancestors.

May you become their legacy little one. May you step out of the darkness. May you always step into the sun."

I love having clothing I can trust put on my son. I also love connecting to my cultural roots through the clothing so I can bring my son up within this knowledge.
