Each year I design an ornament for our holiday collection, for 2022 I felt we could all use some grounding. Our El Camino Nacimiento/ Nativity Set features Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus. They are draped in a cobija/ blanket which features my El Camino design.
Like many Tainos I was raised Catholic. As I took the path back to my indiginiety this caused me a lot of pain, and turmoil. The Spanish and Catholic church destroyed our way of life and derailed our progress. But hatred is exhausting, so I chose to integrate all of me. I practice Agua Dulce, which is Taino spirituality but I haven`t turned away from Catholicism. If you aren`t ready to, don`t. If a nativity set reminds you of joyful Christmases, embrace that. El Camino depicts the birth of baby Jesus, but with Taino icons. You`ll note instead of a manger there is a bohio. Our bohiti, or shaman, have replaced the three wise men. This item is handmade in the Dominican Republic by a cooperative of artisans we partner with. El Camino was originally sketched created by our Founder. Measurements: Width 3.5.
